A few weeks ago I was joking about fat genes. Today, I thought I’d revisit the discussion and look at the link between DNA and health/nutrition by highlighting a Utah-based company I came across: Code Nutrition.
The cool thing about Code Nutrition is that they design vitamins that are unique to you, based on your one-of-a-kind genetic code. Pretty slick if you ask me (but not cheap!).
They’ve got a three step process:
1. DNA Test: Simple at-home DNA test takes just minutes to complete.
2. Return Test: Place completed test in the prepaid envelope and drop in the mail.
3. You’re Coded! Your printed DNA analysis and first 30-day supply of custom nutrients will arrive in 3-4 weeks.
So, why is this cool? Well, my brother-in-law who’s a Biochemistry PhD student would be better equipped to tell you, but from what I can glean…
DNA controls the proteins in your body that deal with absorption of important vitamins and minerals. So, your personal DNA might not allow you to process certain vitamins as well and might make you more prone to a particular deficiency. The Code Nutrition vitamins try to compliment your particular needs, deficiencies, etc. to get the most health benefit possible, instead of the standard multi-vitamin that’s just a generic blast of a bunch of stuff.
If you’re as intrigued by this as me, you can learn more about how Code Nutrition works on their website, and if you happen to be less economically challenged then I am at the moment (a.k.a. broke), you can order up some of these bad boys to see how they boost your energy and health.
