New set of wheels – will it help my weight loss efforts?

My new Diamondback bike

My new Diamondback bike

Last Saturday I went out and bought a bike from Sports Authority – basic “entry level” bike, but hey, I’m not a hard core biker and I’m on a budget (speaking of, check out mint.com if you haven’t yet.  It’s a great online tool for managing personal finances and it’s FREE).

So the aspiration is that I’ll start biking to work soon.  It’s about 3.3 miles each way, which is a nice, reasonable distance for a bike.  My main concern is that I’m so out of shape still that I’ll be sweating like a pig by the time I get to work.  I’ll have to figure something out…

Lose the equipment… Body weight exercise is all it takes

Let’s face it, when you’re overweight, your own body weight is plenty to heave around to get a solid workout.  So, this week I’m continuing to workout using Matt Furey’s combat conditioning and combat abs.   Although MF’s programs go into much more depth, they each have a core set of basic exercises that I pretty much stick to at this point.  Combat conditioning has “the royal court” and combat abs has the “magnificent seven”.  I’ll review his programs in more detail later for whoever might be interested.

One thing I’ve subbed in for MF’s pushup portion is a program I came across call “hundredpushups.com”.  When I was about 17 I could do around 40-50 pushups at once, but that’s about the last time I could do more than 20-ish.  Now it’s even worse than that.  So, I thought it might be kind of fun to try this program out –- six weeks to a hundred pushups.  It might take a few more weeks than that depending on if I need to repeat weeks (which I probably will!), so we’ll see…
