It’ll catch up with you eventually…

One of my dad’s favorite sayings to me as I was growing up was “it’ll catch up with you eventually”. He was usually referring to me being able to eat mass quantities of food and stay super thin. It’s tough to believe it when you’re 18, 6’2” and 165 lbs.

A few years later, I got married at 21 and I was an inch taller at 6’3” and picked up five pounds with that inch to weigh in at 170 lbs. Still no fatness in sight. Two years later. Doing okay – maybe 175. Another two years – hitting 180, still not worried.

Well, I turned 30 in December and was getting dangerously close to 200 lbs. and concern started to hit. It’s like I broke a resistance level with a stock and BOOM! Upward and onward – soaring to 219. Not concerned any more. Panic is a better word.

You were right dad… it caught up with me.
