Which Do I Hate More?

Okay, so it’s obvious my training has not been up to par the last few weeks.  Thanks to the encouragement of my good friends (thanks for leaving a comment!), I decided to do something I hate to do…

I went running tonight.

Yes, my friends happen to be a marathon runner and a triathlete, so running seems like an obvious choice when trying to get in shape.  My wife also happens to be a runner and tonight when I got home from work she went for a run while I got the kids ready for bed (my idea of a workout).  So, when my wife got home, I reflected on the advice of my good friends and decided to bite the bullet and go for a run.

Well, I didn’t bother figuring out much of a route or clocking any distance.  I figured I would be crumpled in a sweaty heap of cramped up pain quickly enough that the event didn’t merit serious planning.  I grabbed an i-pod, laced up my shoes, and went out the door.

Sure enough, *twelve* minutes later I  came crawling back through the door, having run a loop around the neighborhood across the street.  I think I ate dinner a little too recently and it sure was killing me.  I figure if I got my clothes sweat through completely, then twelve minutes must be good enough.  It’s a start at least.

So, the question is… do I hate running more than being fat?  Time will tell…

Break Even is a Win

Stayed the same this week…

Weight: 216 lbs.
Waist: 40 inches

In an effort to make myself feel better, I realized that maintaining my weight, while not ideal, is a lot better than the trend I was on prior to starting this blog.  I was gaining at a pretty scary clip, so no gain is still a win.  It’ll be a bigger win when I can drop 30 pounds, but I’ve got to find a way to juggle the schedule to work out enough to get there.  My diet has improved, which at this point is the main contributor to maintaining instead of gaining.

Here’s to this week and hope I can shave a pound or two!
